For most of his career he has been at the forefront of technology and leadership in education built on a sound platform of knowledge in schools, local authorities, regional, national and international settings. He has taken a lead in the introduction of new technology into schools and LAs and at national level including the development of the first National Harnessing Technology Strategy, Chair of the Xchange conferences in 2005 and 2006 and as a regular speaker at conferences and events.
Mike’s impressive portfolio includes the leadership of ICT services for Birmingham schools; Director for the pilot and then rollout of the acclaimed national SLICT programme for head teachers, leadership of the hugely successful Self Review Framework (SRF) used by 18,000 schools, the prestigious ICT Mark and leadership of the ICT Excellence Awards.
Mike has broadened his influence and impact by leading new development in e-safety including challenge and support for Safeguarding boards and schools and has been resolute and passionate about the potential for technology to support learners and the link between home and schools by designing and leading the national parental engagement programmes.
Mike is an experienced leader having worked at senior levels for many years, most recently as Director at Becta in the schools sector. Upon leaving Becta Mike has been encouraged to continue to work and thrive in the sector he knows so well.
